Has School Started Yet?

Is it so awful to be counting down the days until school starts? I’ve been eagerly checking and re-checking the calendar in the morning. Only three weeks, two weeks, less than two weeks to go! And my daughter is only attending play school.

I’m sure we’re all in agreement that we love our children. But having a little distance from them makes us appreciate them a little more. And we hope (perhaps vainly) that they will appreciate us a little more too. It’s also about getting back to routine. But ultimately, it’s about having time as an individual rather than as a family.

Having the kids in school (or care) provides us with some breathing space. It gives us time to remember our identity outside of ‘mother’ or ‘father’…. or grocery shopper, house cleaner, Lego engineer extraordinaire, swing pusher, taxi driver, craft builder, diaper changer, etc.

I wholeheartedly believe that we need time to remember who are and what we are aspiring to. Otherwise, family life will manage our identity for us. Time to reconnect with ourselves can only be experienced away from family responsibilities. Tapping into our sense of self (perhaps forgotten) will make us happier and stronger parents.

Which is why I’m cheering for Day 1 of play school. Only 13 more sleeps to go!

It’s awesome in favor of me to have a web site, which is beneficial in favor of my experience.

School or care away from family members certainly gives the kids a chance of independence, I have seen huge strides in confidence as a little 5 year old marches into grande one and it was the dad who was having a hard time!!
Don’t get me wrong I am not for permanent day care on the day of their birth but a little space away from each other makes the heart grow fonder.

I’m definitely craving the routine that school brings. But I’m really going to miss G when he goes to school every morning this year!
